So I have talked about blogs, and ecommerce and general websites, however there is another option – a website that you can update! (a content managed website) And yes without a great deal of knowledge – I tend to say if you can use Microsoft Word you can do this.
If you have read other pages on my website you will already know of the software – yep its WordPress.
What you get with this software is the ability to add/edit and delete content – and images.
WordPress is also way more than that too, on its own out-of-the-box its great just works but its ability to be extending by the use of plugins is where it gets pretty special. Plugins are extensions to wordpress that are written by people, coders, developers and are free or paid for and there are hundreds of thousands!!
Some of the things that I have used plugins for:
- ecommerce store
- event manager
- ticket sales
- portfolio gallery
However the options are pretty endless!
Now whilst this all sounds fantastic WordPress does have a darker side – by this I mean it MUST Be kept up to date. WordPress is so hugely popular that its also a target with hackers and the like. If your website is not up to date and they find a loophole.. well..
Its pretty simple to do and I usually include a maintenance fee for yearly wordpress updates for you – but you should not create a wordpress website and then never update it .. that is recipe for real problems!
