HTML 5 – coming to a website near you

HTML 5 – for me is very exciting – as it will allow me to create much more exciting things on websites – without resorting to flash or jquery or other pieces of code

But how will it effect you the user or client?

Basically – what is it?

HTML is the code that all websites are written in, its a MARK UP language, which basically means that you use HTML to say how a website is to be laid out – so what are headings, paragraphs, images – that type of thing.

On its own (when used properly ;)) a website created in pure HTML alone won’t look very pretty – but it would be functional – and actually how a website looks in plain HTML is what a Search Engine would see and read.

Up until now you used CSS (cascading stylesheet) to create the colours, positions and WOW aspect of a website.

However introducing HTML 5 means that we get to use HTML is a better way and although its still MARK UP and you would still use it for laying out a website but now we would be able to add images on the fly, video, audio and all sorts of neat tricks.

And the best part…

it works in apple products!!

Now everyone here will have seen HTML 5 but without realising – how? – where? – when? I here you ask! Well just go too www.google.co.uk and look at their logo – you know how often it appears relevant to events that are happening – easter eggs, or a time machine, christmas maybe – all of that is done with HTML 5 – neat huh!

is there really any need for you to get excited? – well not really its more of a techy geek thing – but hey from a techy geek I am very excited!

There is a downside however, not all browsers are able to read and use HTML 5 yet – which is a real shame – however the good people at HTML 5 have made it backwards compatible (lovely phrase) which means instead of the warning “sorry you need to download the latest flash player to view this” it will nicely downgrade to something that your browser can cope with!

NICE!

So here’s to exciting things to come!
